Ben Gurion Elementary School

My first week at Ben Gurion has been quite an experience. I work 3 days a week, and I privately tutor kids in English during their classes. The kids that I tutor are usually 9 to 13 years old. After meeting some of the students in the school for the first time, I was really happy to be working at this school. Every time I would walk through the halls, there would be several kids approaching me with questions and giving me high-fives. I made me feel like I am someone who these students can look up too. This helped me realize that I am not only helping these students with their English, but I am setting an example for them. This is why i make sure to dress properly and say the right things everyday.
When I arrived to school for my second day, all of the students were covered in bruises and cuts. They explained to me that it was a class activity, but when I was trying to tutor them , they were pretending that they were actually hurt so they would not have to work. This shows how the kids have no motivation to do any work, which is a very big problem. The kids who actually want to learn are held back by the students who fool around. There has been several times where the teacher will send me two kids who do not know the alphabet and have no desire to learn, and one student who speaks very well. The students who do not want to learn prevent the good pupil from working.
