Fairly Uneventful on the Water

This week was a pretty boring week of work.  Because of the Purim break, there was only one group of students who came to sail with us; this was on Monday afternoon.  Also, all of the madrichim were there on Monday, so there was only so much work I could do.  For one class, there were four madrichim, Dror (my rekaz/boss) , the three teachers, Rami (the guy who does the maintenance and is there all the time), and the three YC volunteers.  Harold, Sophie, and myself were delegated to kayaking on the sea with the kids and looking as if we were there for a reason…there was a madricha in a kayak and another one the motor-boat keeping track of the kids and telling them what to do.
On Wednesday and Thursday I painted a few more walls of the office.  The only really exciting part-if you can it that-was when the rusted, iron lighting fixture nearly fell on my head,  but I managed to twist out of its fall and stay on the ladder (success).  Aside from this, work was…work, nothing special.  However, I did watch a few people attempt to surf; they weren't that good.
On another note, working on the beach is a very interesting experience.  It is usually very quiet, which allows sound to travel from the army training bases near Ashkelon.  All the time we can hear explosions from the drills that army is doing, and fortunately, or unfortunately, I have become completely used to these and am no longer fazed/affected by the explosions.  Likewise, the military helicopters that fly overhead from the airport in Tel Aviv to the one just outside of Gaza no longer cause me to stop and turn.  I am somewhat worried about this, but I haven't lost any sleep on it, so it's all good.
