After taking a break from work for Purim, it was nice to be teaching at the school again. Now this week, the behavior of the students was completely different than the previous week. The kids were acting very disrespectful towards their teachers and each other. An example of this is when a teacher assigned two of her kids to work with me, but since he was put with a student he did not like, he refused to work and walked out of the room completely disregarding everything that the teacher was saying. Instead of the teacher going after the student, she allowed him to walk away. Now this incident gives me the impression that she does not really care about the welfare of her students.
During the week, the students were being very wild and were not listening to anyone. The one incident which really effected me happened during the last day of the week. While I was teaching my students, a younger kid, whom I did not know, approached us and started pulling the table away from us. This was disrupting my lesson, so I asked the student to stop, but he did not listen. He then flicked me off and started hitting one of the kids. At this point, I stood up to inform a teacher, but then the kid takes a chair and throws it at me. Luckily, I caught it in the air. I then told a teacher and she just told him to go back to class. I could not believe what I heard. This little kid hits one of my students and then attempts to throw a chair at me, and the teacher did not punish him at all. These are just some examples of how the kids in this school do not really have respect for their elders or peers, and the teachers do not reprimand them for showing disrespect. It was not the best week, but I am hoping it will change for the better.
