Ben Gurion Elementary School Week 6
Coming back to my school was really nice after the break. All the kids gave me a really warm welcome. I was surprised because I thought they would have forgot about me. The kids were wild as usual and it was very hard to get anything done because they just don't care. But in class we had to do a midterm which I was worried about because I didnt know what topic to use. When I finally decided to choose teaching English as a second language, I didnt take it seriously. But after really looking into it, I realized that there were a lot of techniques that I could use to help these kids. So when I went to volunteer, I tried to apply the strategies I learned about, and I honestly saw results. The students were actually listening to me and participating instead of just shutting me out and fooling around with their friends. I realized after my presentation that it is about how you teach the subject to the students and then they will respond. For example, by involving their culture in the learning, the students will have a much better experience. It also helped me make a much more friendly environment for the kids. By using the strategies, it helped me enjoy myself more because I felt like I was actually helping them. Its a shame that I cant have the same kids more then once a week though. Im going to continue using the strategies I learned to help me teach my students and ill let you know how it goes.
